Instructions for Registering

Temporary Suspension of
Late Fees & Penalties

Until November 1, 2008

It is the intention of NAPHA to make the registration and transfer process as simple as possible for our members. We understand that many of you were unsure how to handle these processes during the merger of the AAOBPPH into NAPHA. Consequently you find yourselves in the situation of having unregistered horses and incomplete transfers.

To assist our members, the NAPHA Board of Directors and the Registration Committee have elected to issue a temporary suspension of late fees. The seven month period between April 1, and November 1, 2008, has been designated as "penalty free". If you have past-due registrations, transfers, stallion reports or any other paperwork that now has late fees or a penalty, you can complete the paper work with no additional fees or penalties. You will simply pay the initial fee shown on the fee schedule, and DNA typing. For example a five year-old mare that has never been registered, would normally cost $555 (member price) to register; but during the suspension period the same mare can be registered for $50 for members and $100 for non-members plus the DNA typing fee of $55 for members and $65 for non-members. THIS IS NOT RETROACTIVE for horses that have already completed the registration process.

Any registration requiring an owner transfer will require payment of owner transfer fees. All owner transfers will be charged at $35.

Registration work must be mailed into the NAPHA office with all paperwork completed and the required signatures, photo requirements met, registration and DNA typing fees paid. If all is not complete, the registration application and all other paperwork will be returned to you along with a credit slip for the registration fees paid, less the cost of postage and a $5 handling fee, to return the incomplete paperwork. Return of incomplete paperwork will be via Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. We suggest you send in your paperwork via the same. MAKE CERTAIN YOUR PAPERWORK IS COMPLETE.

DNA typing and Parental Verification will still be required of all unregistered horses, prior to registration. DNA typing and all paperwork must be completed before November 1, 2008. If you have any questions or need assistance in completing your registration/transfer forms, please email Arlynda Castro at arlynda@napha.net.

This is an opportunity for all owners to bring their registrations current without paying any late fees. After November 1, 2008, NAPHA will return to the regular fee schedule and cease waiving late fees for any reason.

NAPHA Junior Scholarship

   Winner is Tiffany Evans

The winner of the 2007 NAPHA Junior Scholarship

Award is Tiffany Evans of Elizabethtown, KY. She is the daughter of Mary Jo and Wally Evans.
"We had four wonderful applicants," noted Junior Scholarship Chairman Athena Goumas. "It was a tough decision."
Tiffany is the owner of MAJESTAD NEGRO DOS LRP and an avid horse lover. A straight A student, Tiffany graduated May 12, 2007 with a 4.0 grade point average. She plans to attend Morehead State University.
Tiffany purchased "Dos" two years ago and the love affair between horse and rider has grown each day. In her essay, Tiffany wrote:
"Most people might call me crazy for loving such a powerful, high-strung horse. Dos is a very indepen-dent horse and very untrusting of people and other horses. My challenge was to calm his fears. I set a reachable goal; Dos and I were going to learn to trust each other. I gave him kindness and love. I went out morning and night to feed, brush, ride and love him. Then finally, it happened. After endless days, weeks, and months of pouring endless love to him, he looked me in the eyes and took a step toward me. Shocked and excited, I began to cry. The time, patience, and love that I had given to Dos had finally paid off. He gave me the most precious gift of all -- his love and trust. My first year with Dos was magical. A bond formed between us, one that could never be broken. Together we rode on relaxing trail rides and trained for competitive horse showing. This year (our second year together) along with the trail rides and horse shows, we will be competing on a 16 horse/rider, 4-H Drill Team. Dos is still scare of other horses, but he truste me enough to pursue this goal with me. Dos has shown me that with enough time, patience, love and determination, we can make our dreams become a reality."
Tiffany has served as president of her 4-H Club and has been recognized for her leadership skills -- including the 4-H Bronze and Silver Awards; the 4-H,
