NAPHA JUNIOR HORSEMANSHIP PROGRAM


ELIGIBILITY         Open to any junior member of the NAPHA (ownership 
                    of a Peruvian Paso not necessary to participate)
AGES                8 through 18 years - Birthdate to be considered 
                    January 1 of current year
AWARD YEAR          Points counted from Jan 1st to Dec 31st
AWARDS TO BE GIVEN  Within 60 days of year end




GOALS
The goal of the NAPHA Horsemanship Program for Junior Members 
is to encourage junior member participation in the NAPHA and 
ultimately in the breed as a whole.  The Registry encourages its 
senior members to sponsor juniors and give them the satisfaction of 
sharing their wonderful world of Peruvians with the next generation 
of owners and breeders.


ACTIVITIES FOR POINTS
Sanctioned Competitive Riding - actual hours in saddle
Promotional demonstration - horseback - actual hours in saddle
Promotional demonstration - oral or written - time used for giving presentation
Holding office as a Junior Representative in a Regional Peruvian Club - working 
     hours
Holding office as a NAPHA Junior RAM - actual hours worked
Participating in a Peruvian Parade group - hours on horse or walking with unit
Volunteering for Therapeutic Riding Programs using Peruvians - hours working 
     with horse
Riding for leisure - per hour - non sanctioned event
Grooming Peruvian Pasos, cleaning their stalls & tack, helping an exhibitor at 
     a show - actual hours worked
Working at a Peruvian Horse Show or a fund raiser - ribbons, gates, runner, etc. 
     - hrs. worked
Showing a Peruvian Paso in Open Shows - non NAPHA pointed - hours in the ring


POINT SYSTEM
Based on a system similar to 4-H: Blue, Red & White ribbons of merit.
Merit awards to be verified by NAPHA Rotating Advisory Member and 
parent or guardian of junior.


Junior is responsible for applying for awards through submission of 
information in a timely manner.


Fee: None - Junior Horsemanship Program - packet (instructions, time sheet) 
to be sent with NAPHA Junior membership card.
Award ribbons: single rosette with streamer.


Juniors must submit their total hours of participation by their keeping 
record of their time. This must be signed off semi-annually by their parents 
or sponsor and forwarded for verification to their Rotating Advisory Member who 
will forward it to the NAPHA office. Reports for January - June should be received 
by the following July 10th and those for July - December by January 10th.  
The program will be conducted on the honor system.


1 hour of participation in approved activities = 1 point

Example:  ride 3 hours per week x 52 - 156 points
