   INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE
   REGISTRATION OF A HORSE
    IMPORTED FROM PERU

     1. Owner or designated, recorded Agent should complete the top third
on the front of the registration application and sign where it says
"owner of the mare at the time of foaling", crossing out the "of mare
at the time of foaling" part.

     2. Complete the markings section on the back of the application.

     3. Return to the NAPHA office with the following:

          a) Copies of BOTH sides of the horse's ANCPCPP (Peruvian) registration
papers. (Also AAOBPPH, Canadian or other registration papers if so
               registered.)

          b) If the horse was registered in Peru after May of 1982 (see
"Fecha de Registro in the lower left corner of the ANCPCPP papers,)
the Registry requires documentation that the horse qualifies for a
closed stud book. This verification is made via copies of the
sire's and dam's ANCPCPP certificates of registration (or grandsire's
and granddam's and further back until pedigree shows registration
prior to 1982.) If the horse does not qualify, it will be registered
               provisionally.

          c) The required color photographs (showing the entire horse - both
sides and all markings including face.) Digital or color copies
	       are not accepted.

          d) Put the date of importation on the front of the registration
application and label it as such.

          e) Registration of imported horses is $100 (members) or $225
(non-members) during the first year after importation. The fee
after one year of importation and before two years is $200 (members)
or $300 (non-members). Thereafter, the fee is $500 (members) or
               $600 (non-members).

Please note: ALL ungelded males registered or transferred to the NAPHA
will be registered with a "T" number indicating that they have not yet been
registered for breeding purposes. These horses will be subject to NAPHA
rules regarding registration of stallions for breeding (those rules require
DNA typing by UC Davis, a veterinarian's statement that the horse has two
normal, descended testicles and a fee of $125 which includes the DNA typing
     costs.)

If you have any questions, please contact the NAPHA office.
