NAPHA RULES: Shipment of Fresh Semen
(A) The recorded owner(s) of one or more stallions intended for use in a program using the shipment of fresh semen shall first apply to the Registry for a Permit covering each stallion to be used for A.I. with Shipped Fresh Semen during the calendar year. This application shall consist of:
1. Name of stallion 2. NAPHA Registration Number of stallion 3. Place of collection 4. All stallions on this program must be registered as Breeding stallions and must have their blood &/or DNA type on file with the NAPHA office. (DNA is required for all stallions on this program beginning 1/1/95.) 5. Permit Filing Fee This permit must be renewed whenever any of the information on the Permit Form changes (ownership or place of collection.) (B) Upon receipt of a Permit covering the shipment of fresh semen, the stallion owner(s) agree(s) to the following terms and conditions: 1. Collection of semen, extension and shipment must be done under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian or A.I. technician. 2. No stallion used on this Program shall be bred to more than forty-five (45) mares in one calendar year, such breedings to consist of the combined total of both artificial inseminations (using either fresh or frozen semen) and natural breedings. 3. Inseminations using shipped semen must be done by a licensed veterinarian or A.I. technician. 4. All paper work required with the Program must be completed and sent to the Registry within the time limits designated or the resulting foal may be ineligible for registration. Each form which is filed after the deadline will only be accepted upon payment of the required fine. 5. The mare owner, if different from the stallion owner, must agree to all registry rules and regulations covering the use of shipped fresh semen. This agreement must be signed by the mare owner and submitted to the Registry prior to the actual insemination. 6. The Registry requires that blood &/or DNA samples be taken from the sire, dam and foal under Registry supervision and that said blood &/or DNA samples be typed by the serology laboratory approved by the Registry (UC Davis) and matched prior to the registration of the foal. 7. A permit covering the collection and shipment of fresh semen may be revoked by the Board of Directors at any time for just cause. Paper work required for this program beginning 1/1/92: Permit Request Form, Mare Owner Statement and Verification of Receipt of Semen and Insemination of Mare Form. NOTE: Use additional forms if more space is needed (more than 10 collections or inseminations in the year) or if more than one veterinarian or AI technician was used and needs to sign the report. In such cases, have each sign for only the dates he/she inseminated.
